The desk in every student's pocket
What the StudyDesk Android app gives members — a live QR pass, dues status, renewals and attendance history — and how versioned releases keep the desk's app current without an app store.
Every system in a library is only as good as the front door students actually use. The Android app is that door: the pass they scan, the dues they see, the complaint they file and the message they send to the desk.
What a member gets
- A live QR pass — scan the library's code at the gate to record entry and exit.
- Dues status and renewals — what is owed, until when, and a way to pay from the app.
- Attendance history — a month-at-a-glance calendar of every check-in on their plan.
- Direct messaging with the desk — a real thread with the library, not a phone number that rings during a study session.
- Complaints and contact — routed to the library's support queue instead of a lost WhatsApp message.
Offline-first by default
Students move between floors, basements and patchy mobile data all day. The app caches what it reads so the home screen, the pass and the dues figure paint instantly from the last known state and refresh quietly behind them. Nobody is standing in a corridor waiting for a spinner.
Notifications that are actually read
Push notifications carry the things a student must not miss — pass expiring, dues due, shift starting — while WhatsApp carries the things that benefit from a human voice: renewal reminders, receipt delivery and support replies. Using the right channel for the right message is why the app is not muted by half the student base.
Releases you control
StudyDesk distributes the Android build directly from the platform rather than through a public app store. Each release is versioned with its own changelog and size, surfaced on the download page, and served from your own domain — so members get the build your desk is actually running, and you can ship a fix the same day you find a problem.
- 1 tap
- from the app to the front gate
- 0
- app-store approvals between releases
- 24/7
- dues and pass visibility for members
Getting members onto the app
- Print the download link at the counter and on renewal receipts.
- Walk new members through one scan at the gate during onboarding.
- Ask for notification permission right after the first successful check-in.
- Show the dues screen during a payment conversation, once.
- Keep a fallback: staff can still record entries from their side.
